NEWS ABOUT
NASTYA |
| |
| Nastya is the
first of the babies, abandoned by their
parents at birth, to have been sponsored
by Leaves of Hope. Here she is, reunited
with her birth parents, and thriving.
She is clutching my camera. You will see
that she still needs a lot of medical
attention. Her fingers are firmly fused
but arrangements have been made for her
to have surgery. |
 |
She also
needs a lot of treatment for her
breathing, and may need a shunt
for the hydrocephalus, but the
main thing is that she is
obviously enormously happy and
her parents are devoted to her.
They told us that when Nastya
was born they were told she was
going to die and they came under
considerable pressure to abandon
her. |
|
| Remember
this photograph taken in
Borovliani hospital? Had we not
intervened Nastya would have
been transferred to a ‘baby
house’ and from there to an
orphanage where she would have
remained for the rest of her
life – probably in a cot. But
the Llanrumney team had other
ideas! They provided the
sponsorship and the fostering
project provided the trained
foster carer. The media provided
the publicity and Mum made
contact. |
 |
|
| Once with the
foster family Nastya made huge progress.
The foster carer worked with the birth
parents and Belarusian Association of
Handicapped Children provided the much
need support and guidance for the
transfer. The family is now reunited but
they will continue to need our help for
some time as they adjust to having a
daughter and as they learn to manage her
special needs. We will continue to do
everything we can to support them.
Please continue to support us in doing
so. |
