FANTASTIC FUNDRAISERS 2

The Humanitarian Aid side of the charity survives solely on fundraising and donations; convoys always have to be self funded. Our supporters work tirelessly to raise money through ‘bucket collections’, quiz nights, boot sales and all manner of sponsored events. So many people and groups from all ages and walks of life help us raise money. We cannot name them all but the following is a very small selection:

Children, staff, families and friends of St Catherine’s Catholic School in Littlehampton, West Sussex, raised £500 in December 2005 to buy Christmas presents for the children living in the orphanages in Belarus. The children raised the money by donating £3 for a paper present which they decorated; the glittering, colourful and eye-catching ‘presents’ were then displayed on a tree at the school and prizes given for the best entries.

Catherine Kelly took part in the 5K Christmas Cracker Chase to raise money for the Prevention Project. ”

Including Gift Aid Catherine raised £500

Andrew Bamford ran the Bristol half marathon and raised £750

Newport Council employee, Brian Lovett ran the

London Marathon and raised £565.

Dave Proctor from Cardiff ran the Cardiff
Marathon and Liz Wright from Plymouth ran the
Cardiff half-marathon raising £452 and £533. Liz
ran especially for equipping the newly decorated
orphans’ unit in Borovliani.

A sponsored abseil raised over £1,200. One of the
participants was a youthful 59 year old teacher,
Paulette Hanscombe!

Clairvoyants, Kay Harding and Jan Lewis have raised a total of £3,205.53 from their ‘entertainment evenings’.

Cardiff Council's Community Learning Service collected pretty outfits for the girls at Dzhordina orphanage to wear on special occasions while Adult and Community Centres raised funds by selling amber jewellery and Matryoshkas (dolls).

The Ladies' Group at St Michael's Church, Tongwynlais, continues to fund raise and to collect toiletries, underwear, hats scarves and gloves and Christmas presents for the children in ‘our’ orphanages.

Val Burt has almost developed a Plymouth 'branch' of the charity through her efforts. She has raised over £1600 through selling Matryoshkas and amber jewellery and has collected party dresses as well as clothes for our Borovliani Centre.

A talk to Coryton Ladies Group raised £456 in just over an hour. We are sure that this was due to the excellent impression made by David Jones and Ashley Molloy, 2 of the boys from Llanrumney High School who assisted in giving the talk.

Ashley and David have also raised funds by cleaning cars and by decorating an office for the local Healthy Living Centre for which they were paid £500.

During their trip to Germany the six boys did a
presentation to members of the
Royal Army Medical Corps and the result of this was a donation of £546.67.

Pensioner Vi Sainty of Countisbury Residential Home shaved her head and raised £253.66.

Joan Mears, a pensioner in her eighties, has been sponsoring a child since 2001. Joan’s £10 per month has added up over the years. Joan also sends presents bringing joy to many.

Sixteen year olds Karl Sprason and David Wright ‘persuaded charity director, Val Cousins to join them on a sponsored parachute jump. The team raised £1,700. As well as fundraising, Val found it hair-raising and has refused to ever again join the young people on any event that involves going more than 6 inches off the floor!

Pupils at Pen-y-Bryn Primary School, Llanrumney, Cardiff adopted ‘Leaves of Hope’ as it’s charity for the year. As well as raising enough money to buy every child at the Zhordina
Orphanage a personal Christmas present, which they then wrapped, they went on to raise a further £1,000

Over £2,000 from collections and events organised by church congregations in West Sussex
