EGOR APPEAL

This is Egor (pronounced Yegor). He is 7 years old and lives in the Zhdanovichi Orphanage in Minsk. We know very little about his past, other than his mother abandoned him at birth.

Egor is suffering from the very unpleasant skin disease called Ichthyosis. It causes his skin to become very thick and scaly and it constantly cracks and bleeds. His whole body is affected, even his eyes are crystallising. The way he looks means that he has become ostracised by the other children. He is leading a very sad and lonely life

Unfortunately, the staff at the orphanage do not have the resources to give him the intense daily treatment he needs. They would love to help him but, with two carers to fifteen children, time is not on their side either. We have tried to buy the necessary medication in Belarus but again, sadly for Egor, it is not available at present.

It is our intention to bring Egor to Wales for treatment, bringing with him a carer to learn how to administer the treatment along with our interpreter Luda Tagay.

Once Egor’s problems are fully diagnosed and the correct treatment is in place, we will start the process of having Egor placed with a foster family in Belarus. The carer will then teach the family how to administer his treatment.

Cardiff GP, Dr Joanna Longstaffe, has offered to help. She has arranged for Consultants to examine Egor – free of charge! Of course, we need to raise the funds to bring him over and to pay for any medications and in-treatment. We are aiming for £5,000 and any monies over will go to buying Egor suitable clothing to relieve irritation and supporting his new family with any initial outlay for specialist equipment.
